Japanese star architect Kisho Kurosawa designed the Gazprom-Arena after the vision of a spacecraft that landed on Krestovsky Island in St. Petersburg. Thanks to the retractable roof and the movable playing field, the arena can host any event at any time of the year. After several years of construction delay, the arena was completed in time for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and subsequently also played a prominent role in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The 68,000 FCB-M seats in different shades of blue are the perfect complement to the futuristic design of the arena.
